Do You Need Experience or Qualifications to Start a Career as a Carer?

Many people believe they need previous experience before starting a career in care. In reality, employers often look for compassion, reliability and a willingness to learn above everything else.

At CareLink Academy, we are an Official Highfield Qualifications accredited training provider delivering Ofqual-regulated Levels 2 to 5 Health & Social Care qualifications fully online. These qualifications are recognised by employers and the CQC across England and are designed to fit around shift patterns.

To begin working in care, most employers expect you to have the right to work in the UK, complete an enhanced DBS check, demonstrate basic English and maths skills and show a caring, professional attitude. Experience is helpful but is not always essential.

The Care Certificate is usually the first step for new care workers. It introduces the standards and values expected in the sector. From there, many learners progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Care, followed by the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care for senior care roles. Those pursuing leadership positions often continue to Levels 4 and 5.

Studying online allows learners to continue earning while improving their qualifications. Flexible learning means you can study around work commitments without interrupting your career.

Recognised qualifications improve confidence, competence and career progression. They also help employers maintain a skilled workforce that meets professional standards.

If you are considering a career in care, remember that the right attitude can open the door, while recognised qualifications help you build a successful long-term career.
